On Friday, 7 July, I had the great pleasure of joining the winners of the WineGB Awards 2023 at the competition’s annual Awards Luncheon and Ceremony at the impressive Drapers Hall, London.
The WineGB Awards is the national competition for the English and Welsh wine industry. Organised and run by WineGB, the aim and purpose of the Awards is to “send out a positive message of the quality, consistency and variety of our wines”. This year, Bevica proudly co-sponsored the Awards Luncheon and Ceremony.
WineGB Awards 2023: record number of entries
This year saw a record number of entries, with 346 wines being entered into the competition. There were 48 gold, 145 silver and 120 bronze medals awarded. View the medal winners here. We are delighted that several Bevica clients celebrated success. The Awards Ceremony saw trophies being awarded to a range of wineries and vineyards from across Great Britain. West Sussex’s Digby Fine English were crowned Supreme Champion, in addition winning trophies for Best Classic Cuvee Vintage and Top Sparkling for their 2013 Vintage Reserve Brut.
UK wine industry: well on its way to greater success
Two members of the Bevica team attended the WineGB Awards 2023: myself (Bevica Sales Director) and Claudio Martell, Bevica Product Director, and we agreed that one of the key takeaways from this year’s Awards was how white wine from the UK is clearly becoming a serious contender in the world of wine. It is widely acknowledged that the United Kingdom is as an outstanding region for the production of sparkling wines. What this year’s competition has clearly shown is that the UK is well on its way to being one of the best wine-producing regions in the world for still white wine as well.
I had the great honour of presenting the award for the Best Still Rose to Tuffon Hall Vineyard for their Pinot Noir Rose, Beatrice 2022. Congratulations to them for their achievement!
