What changed in Business Central reporting?

Microsoft began phasing out several standard Excel reports in Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 1, before removing them completely in 2026 Release Wave 1.

These reports have been replaced with versions built using Excel layouts, giving organisations greater flexibility to customise reporting output without requiring development changes.

While the new approach offers significant benefits, many finance teams have been caught out when familiar reports suddenly disappeared from their system.

Business Central reports affected

The following reports have been replaced:

  • Balance Sheet
  • Income Statement
  • Statement of Cash Flow
  • Statement of Retained Earnings
  • VAT Collected (previously Sales Taxes Collected)
  • Customer Statements
  • Aged Accounts Payable
  • Aged Accounts Receivable

For many organisations, Aged Accounts Receivable has generated the most questions. However, the same concepts and solutions discussed in this webinar apply across all affected reports.

Understanding Excel Layouts in Business Central

One of the biggest changes introduced by Microsoft is the use of Excel layouts.

Rather than relying on fixed report formats, Excel layouts provide a more flexible framework that allows finance teams to:

  • Modify report presentation in Excel
  • Tailor reports to specific business requirements
  • Refresh data directly from Business Central
  • Reduce dependence on developers or third-party reporting tools

During the webinar, Paul and Ian demonstrate how Excel layouts work, where they are stored, and the key considerations when managing updates and report changes.
